The South Asian University is located in New Delhi. Currently the university functions from its Akbar Bhawan Campus in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. A permanent campus of about 100 acres in Maidan Garhi in South Delhi has been allotted by the Government of India where construction is in full swing and we hope to be able to shift sometime this year.

Currently SAU offers Masters & PhD programmes in Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Economics, International Relations, Legal Studies and Sociology.

The Medium of instruction is English.

Yes. The degrees provided by the South Asian University are recognized in all the member countries of SAARC.

For admission to Master’s & PhD programmes in Economics, Sociology, International Relations and Legal Studies, the minimum prescribed eligibility criteria is 50% marks or an equivalent grade in the qualifying degree. For admission to Master’s & PhD programmes in Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology and Computer Science, the minimum prescribed eligibility percentage is 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the qualifying degree. Candidates seeking admission to the Master’s programmes have to take an online computer based Entrance test. The syllabus and pattern for the test for all the programmes can be accessed from the university website.

Admission to PhD programmes is in two phases, phase I is an online computer based Entrance Test and phase II consists of an interview. For some disciplines, submission of a research proposal and statement of purpose may also be required. Details can be found on the university website. The Entrance Test is based on a prescribed syllabus and pattern, uploaded on the university website. The interview for candidates from outside India can be held through Skype or similar platform.

Hostel Facilities: Hostel accommodation (on a 3-to-a-room basis) is provided only to those students who come from outside National Capital Region of Delhi (NCR). Each hostel room is approximately 14 ft. x 15 ft. in size, and has an attached bathroom. Tables and chairs are provided in each room. Hostel accommodation is NOT provided for spouse/children or other family members of admitted students. All students staying in the hostel must adhere strictly to  hostel rules. Hostel Fee is US $ 60 per academic semester for students from the SAARC region. Students must vacate the hostel immediately upon completion of their course and/or if they are disqualified from continuing the course. Hostel facilities at SAU are limited and hostel allotment shall be made strictly on a first-come-first served basis subject to availability of beds. If hostel beds get exhausted, students will have to make their own stay arrangements outside. No payment in lieu of hostel accommodation will be paid by South Asian University.

Applications are invited only through online mode. You have to register on the university website in order to apply online. The entrance test fee is USD 10 or INR 740 or equivalent. It is strongly recommended that the fee should be paid through online methods such as internet banking, debit/credit card or any other gateway available while submitting the application. However, if for some reason, online payment cannot be made, option of off-line payment is also available.

The admission process has already started. The last date for applying for admissions this year is 30 April 2022.

If you don’t belong to any of the SAARC countries, you do not need to take the Entrance Test . You should fill the prescribed application form (Application Form for the Nationals of Non-SAARC Countries) and mail it directly to the Deputy Registrar Admissions, South Asian University, Akbar Bhawan, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi- 110021, India with all supporting documents including degrees and mark-sheets, identity proof and a coloured photograph. The application should reach South Asian University by 14 March 2020. Each application will be scrutinized by the concerned faculty to determine the eligibility of the candidate and the decision of the University will be final in this regard.

The current teacher student ratio at SAU is approximately 1:6.

The university doesn’t have any undergraduate programme as yet.

SAU has generous Scholarship and Financial Support options. However, the rules are under revision at present. Scholarship and SAU freeships Guidelines for session 2020-21 are available in Admission Notice.

All scholarships are merit-based, depending on your rank in the Entrance Test . However, a limited number of freeships are available to students who cannot afford to pay the fees. Such students can apply on the prescribed application form after joining the University along with all supporting documents.

A limited number of campus jobs are available under the Wor–Earn programme. You can apply for these jobs on a monthly basis after joining the university.

All students, whether from within India or outside, are treated as equals in all matters, whether academic or administrative. In order to promote integration amongst students living in the hostel, the university has a policy of having students from different countries share accommodation.

SAU degrees are recognized by all SAARC member countries. Job opportunities depend, among other things, on the grades students get and other attributes you pick up while at the University. Many SAU alumni are well placed in universities, colleges, research organisations, think tanks, etc. across the region while many are pursuing higher studies around the world.

The university provides a bed along with a mattress, a table and a chair in the hostel room. Students have to bring their own bed linen and blanket/quilt. The Delhi winter can be quite cold.
