New Delhi (19.02.2019) SAU News: Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission,
Bangladeshand Ex-officioMember,SAU GoverningBoard, delivered the SAU DistinguishedLectureon 19
February2019,attheAkbarBhawanCampusinChanakyapuri.
Prof. Mannan spoke on the topic, “Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Young Generation of the SAARC
Region”. In his talk, Prof. Mannan provided a sweeping history of globalization since the time when
Christopher Columbus accidentally hit the shores of the American continent in 1492. He argued that the
first phase of globalization continued till around 1800, while the second phase that continued till 2000
witnessed the spread of industrially developed countries and multinational corporations spreading their
reach across national frontiers, primarily looking for cheap labour and markets for their goods and
services. The third phase since 2000 has been one of information technology and knowledge, which has
resulted in the world becoming a tiny place. Speaking about the fourth Industrial Revolution, Prof.
Mannan said the advent of this revolution has made knowledge-based societies a reality and will
determinethefuturedestinationofnations.Thedrivingforceofthischangehasbeenhumanintelligence,
innovationandtheabilitytoseethefuture.
International Mother Language Day Observation
New Delhi, (21.02.2019) SAU News: The International Mother Language Day 2019 was observed in the
South Asian University like every year with immense enthusiasm. As declared by the UNESCO, the day is
celebrated worldwide to promote and uphold cultural plurality and diversity. Students of diverse
languages and cultures put up colorful posters in their respective mother languages. Students offered
flowers at the Shaheed Minar on the first hour of 21 February. The formal program was chaired by Dr.
Kavita A Sharma, President SAU, and in her speech she highlighted the importance of one’s mother
language. She also stressed on the necessity to preserve the dying languages of the world. Students
fromdifferentcountriespresentedvibrantculturalitemsencompassingdance,musicandpoetry.

NewDelhi(27.02.2019)SAUNews:The SAU Sports Committee organized SAU
Sports Fest 2018-19 from 18 February to 27 February 2019. Students
participated in multiple fun-filled events as part of the week-long
programme that included indoor games as well as outdoor games- Football,
Cricket, Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom.
Every department participated in the fest in different sporting events that
sawverytoughcompetitioninallthematches.
