South Asian Biotechnology Conference
New Delhi (14-16.03.19) SAU FLSB News: The Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology organized 5th
South Asian Biotechnology Conference (SABC-2019) from 14-16 March 2019 at South Asian University,
New Delhi. The conveners of the conference were Dr. Ritu Gaur and Dr. Rinkoo D. Gupta. This annual
conference was started in 2015 with the aim of promoting cooperation, coordination and collaborations
"
amongstSAARCcountries.ThethemeofSABC-2019was“EmpoweringlivesthroughBiotechnology .The
conference focused on problems pertaining to South Asian region in the field of Infectious Diseases,
BiotechnologyandAgriculture.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Sudhir K. Sopory, Emeritus Scientist (International Center for
Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi and former Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru
University, New Delhi) who enlightened the audience about “Biotech options to alleviate impact of
climatechangeonagriculture”.
Nearly 200 participants including faculties and students from various SAARC countries attended this
three-day conference. There were seven scientific sessions on Plant Biotechnology, Neuroscience and
CancerBiology,InfectiousDiseases,LifeSciences,MicrobialBiotechnologyandNano-biotechnologyand
