New Delhi (09.12.2019) SAU News: Keeping the tradition of commemorating the SAARC Charter Day alive, the
South Asian University observed the historic day on which the charter to establish the regional body was
signed 35 years ago. The event saw active participation from students, faculty and the non-teaching staff of
the university.

Dr. AVS Ramesh Chandra, President (Officiating), SAU, in his inaugural address talked about the importance of
region l co-operation and how it is intrinsic to the objectives of establishing the university. He also updated a
the gathering about the construction activities at the permanent campus. Dr. Ramesh Chandra also read out
the SAARC Charter Day message from the Prime Minister of India and mentioned about the message from the
Secretary General of the SAARC.

In the introductory remark of the day, Mr. Aheibam Prahlad, the Public Relations Officer, SAU, talked about
how South Asian University embodies the very idea of co-operation. Prof. Senthil K. Venugopal, Dean, Faculty
of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, talked about how the commemoration event was consciously made
inclusive with the participation of students, non-teaching staff and faculty in various competitive and cultural
events. He also talked about the fundamental role that science has played in shaping the society since ancient
times.

Later, an art exhibition titled 'Conundrum of Contours' was inaugurated by Dr. Ramesh Chandra.
