Gender Sensitisation Committee Meet
New Delhi (31.01.2019) SAU News: With the
aim to create a gender equal dialogue and
to appreciate various voices that
transcend the boundaries of patriarchal
relations among the student community,
SAU Gender Sensitisation Committee
organized a panel discussion under the
theme ‘Gender Concerns in the
Contemporary Times: Old Perceptions,
NewChallenges’on31January2019.Three
panelists contested and explored several
key questions related to women and their
full participation in the society given the
current landscape of #metoo movement and its effects in the academia and beyond. Prof Nilima
Srivastava,Director,SchoolofGenderandDevelopmentStudies,IndiraGandhiNationalOpenUniversity,
presented a contemporary analysis of gender empowerment while drawing a timeline of historical
prejudices and subordination of women. Taking this debate further, Prof Malashri Lal, former
Chairperson, Department of Women’s Studies, University of Delhi, argued for a reasoned discussion
betweenmasculinitiesandfemininities,andthedynamicsofhowwomenseesolidaritythroughthemand
by them, given the quick impact of social networking websites in the backdrop of the #metoo movement
assertions. Meera Khanna, Executive Vice President, The Guild of Service, examined how language
becomes a discriminatory medium to press suppression of female roles by family members and beyond,
which then gets internalized as an acceptable norm. Students in the audience posed several questions
ranging from glass ceiling for women in corporationsto broadening the dialogue of people to realize true
gender emancipation. Prof Deepa Sinha presented a vote of thanks and assured the students of several
moreoutreachprogramstomainstreamgendersensitivity.
University of Dhaka Students Visit SAU
New Delhi (17.01.2019) SAU IR News: The Department
ofInternationalRelations,SAU,hostedadelegation
of students from the Department of International
Relations, University of Dhaka, on 17 January 2019.
More than 30 students, accompanied by Prof.
Lailufar Yasmin and Ms. Ushan Ara Badal, visited
SAU as part of their SAARC Study Tour. Prof. Sanjay
Chaturvedi, Dean FSS, welcomed the visiting
delegation to SAU. The program included a panel
discussion on 'Regional Cooperation Initiatives vis- Photo credit : SAARC Study Tour Team (2019), University of Dhaka
à-vis Confluence of Normative Aspects in South Asia', with presentations by Ms. Ishrar Habib, Ms. Labiba
Faiaz Bari and Ms. Mansura Amdad, followed by an engaging interactive session. The event at SAU was
coordinatedbyDr.SoumitaBasu,AssistantProfessor,DepartmentofInternationalRelations,SAU.
