Gender Equality - A Special Talk
New Delhi (19.11.2019) SAU News: The Gender Sensitization Committee,
SAU organised a special lecture by Professor Alka Sharma, Dean -
Humanities and Social Sciences, Jaypee Institute of Information
Technology, on 19 November 2019 on the topic, 'Gender Equality and
Women’s leadership for sustainable society'.
Professor Sharma stressed that sustainable development , i.e.,
development that meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs requires full participation of both men and women. Without ,
gender equality it is difficult to achieve development for all. For ,
gender equal society, one needs to - have conceptual clarity about the
indicators for gender equality. She elaborated on the general
confusion between status of women and gender equality.

Faculty
Prof. Sanjay Chaturvedi, Chairperson, Department of International Relations and Dean, Faculty of Social
Sciences, has joined the Editorial Board of the international peer-reviewed journal Strategic Analysis
(Routledge).
Prof. Sanjay Chaturvedi, Chairperson, Department of International Relations and Dean, Faculty of Social
Sciences, takes over as Chairman, Indian Ocean Research Group (IORG). IORG is an Observer to Indian
Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
Dr. Dhananjay Tripathi, delivered special lectures from 18-19 November 2019, on Regional Integration and
Global Economy at Christ (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, India.
Dr. Soumita Basu, Department of International Relations, is part of the incoming editorial team of the
Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies (OREIS), published by the International Studies
Association and Oxford University Press. Her term as a Senior Editor will begin on 1 January 2020.
Award of Doctor of Philosophy
Sankalp Rajendra Gurjar of the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social Sciences, was
declared successful in the viva voce examination for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy which was held
on 16th September, 2019. His dissertation was titled “India’s Quest for Energy Security in Nigeria and
Sudan (1991 – 2015)”. The dissertation was completed under the supervision of Dr. Nabarun Roy.
Rinki Solanki from Department of Mathematics has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy on 14th
November, 2019 for her thesis entitled “Probabilistic Extension of Intuitionistic Fuzzy Set Based
Clustering Methods and Their Convergence”, completed under the supervision of Dr. Q.M. Danish Lohani
and co-supervision of Professor Pranab Kumar Muhuri.
Aman Pal from the Department of Computer Science has been awarded Doctor of Philosophy on 25th
November, 2019 for his thesis entitled “Efficient variants of plane based classification and clustering
approaches and their Applications”, completed under the supervision of Dr. Reshma Rastogi.
