as Professor in the Faculty of Economics. Professor Mitra
joined SAU in May and has been appointed as the Dean of FE.
Before joining SAU, he worked as Professor of Economics at
the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), New Delhi. He was
the Director General of National Institute of Labour
Economics Research and Development (NILERD), an
autonomous institute under NITI Aayog, Government of
India, in 2017-18. Professor Mitra's research interests include
development economics, urban issues, labour and welfare,
corruption, industrial growth and productivity, services
sector, and gender inequality. He has authored and coedited
several books and has widely published in peer-reviewed
journals.HeobtainedhisPhDfromDelhiSchoolofEconomics
and completed his post-doctoral research from
Northwestern University (USA) as a Ford Foundation Fellow.
He held the Indian Economy Chair at Sciences Po, Paris, in
2010. He has also been a Senior Researcher at the International Labour Organization (ILO), Geneva, a
Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University, Japan, and a
Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan, and Maison Des Sciences de L'Homme,
Paris. He has served as a consultant to a number of international organisations, including ILO, Asian
Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations University
World Institute of Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), Organisation for Economic Co-
operation and Development (OECD), and World Bank. Professor Mitra was awarded the Mahalanobis
Memorial Gold Medal in 2007 by the Indian Econometric Society for his outstanding contribution to
quantitativeeconomics.
Dr.PankajK.GirihasjoinedasAssistantProfessorintheFacultyofLifeSciences
and Biotechnology, South Asian University. He did his Ph.D. from National
University of Singapore and post-doctoral studies from The Scripps Research
Institute, USA and Columbia University, USA. His research interests lie in the
development of single cell epi-transcriptomics combine with next generation
sequencing and super/high-resolution microscopy (supplemented with
biophysical & biochemical methods) to delineate the role of “Nuclear
ReceptorsandNon-codingRNAs”inhormone-sensitivecancers."
