workshop was
conducted at the SAU
titled ‘Mobilities in
South Asia’. This
workshop brought
together scholars from
SAU, JNU, Ashoka
University, Central
University Gujarat and
Sciences Po, Paris. The
question of mobility
has been explored in
the social sciences
either in relation to
social stratification or
inrelationtomigration.Thisworkshopbroughttogetherscholars, comprisingacademicsandseniorPhD
students, from both fields of mobility studies into a conversation that is expected to enhance a broader
understanding of human mobility. The workshop was organised by Dr. Ankur Datta of the Department of
Sociology,SAU.

Seminar on Global Compact on Refugees
New Delhi (18.04.2019) SAU FLS News: One-Day Seminar on 'Global Compact on Refugees (GCR): From
Hope to Action' was jointly organised by the Faculty of Legal Studies, South Asian University and the
United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), India on 18 April, 2019 at South Asian
University, New Delhi. The speakers included Dr. Yasuko Shimizu, Chief of Mission, UNHCR, Dr. Kennedy
Gastorn, Secretary General, Asian
African Legal Consultative
Organisation (AALCO), Dr.
Aniruddha Rajput, Member,
International Law Commission
(ILC), Ms. Suhasini Haidar, The
Hindu, and Dr. Bernard D’sami,
Loyola College, Chennai. The day
long deliberations ended with a
Special Lecture on ‘Global
Compact on Refugees’ by
Professor B.S. Chimni, formerly
Professor, School of
International Studies, Jawaharlal
NehruUniversity.
