Delhi: The Faculty of Life Sciences
and Biotechnology conducted an
International Workshop on
“Recombinant Protein Expression
and Purification Techniques” on 11-
13 December 2019. Dr. Rinkoo D.
Gupta and Dr. AKR Gobinath
organized this workshop. The
major objectives of this workshop
were recombinant protein
expression from prokaryotic as
well as eukaryotic hosts using E.coli
and Pichia pastoris, and purification of the proteins using various techniques which include affinity
chromatography and ion exchange chromatography using sophisticated Fast protein liquid
chromatography (FPLC, AKTA pure) system. Several PhD and Masters students participated in the
workshop, along with couple of faculty members from Royal University of Bhutan. Over three days, the
participants learned the basics of heterologous recombinant protein expression, cell lysis by
ultrasonication, SDS-Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and purification of protein by the advanced
chromatographytechniques.
