DS Blog

Come blog with us!

The Department of Sociology maintains two blogs. Rickshaw: the Students ’ Blog was initiated in September 2011 as a student-run blog to operate as a creative space to express their personal troubles and fantasies and to engage in critical reflection on South Asian society, culture and politics. Though essentially a space for students, from the beginning it was also open to faculty members to express their opinions as well as to students from other faculties and departments within SAU and beyond. At present, the blog consist of numerous poems written in English, Hindi and Bengali as well as essays, opinions and film and book reviews in English. It has a space for photography, departmental announcements, links to other sources of knowledge such as lectures by well-known sociologists and contemporary music from countries such as Pakistan. It also has links to interesting reports from South Asian mass media or reports from other parts of the world on issues of relevance to the region. The present student editors of the blog are Devika Mittal and Anayika Chopra while Prof. Chudamani Basnet functions as the faculty coordinator and editor.
