Established by the University in 2010 the Department of Computer Science (Now renamed as Department of Computer Science & Engineering) is among the first departments with which the university started working in its initial years. The department initiated its teaching activities through a Master’s degree programme in Computer Science in 2010. To strengthen the research activities of the university, the department has instituted a Doctor of Philosophy programme with an early exit option with M.Phil. Degree in 2013. The department has taken the bold step of starting the B.Tech. (CSE) and Dual Degree B.Tech.-M.Tech. (CSE) in the year 2024 and B.Tech. Mathematics and Computing and Master of Computer Applications in the year 2025. For each programme, the department follows a unique up-to-date curriculum with the aim to equip the students with theoretical and analytical skills as well as thorough knowledge and expertise in the latest state-of-the art techniques in IT, so that they could work competently in diverse areas. To accomplish these objectives, the department is offering the PhD programme, four Masters programmes and one Bachelor programme. The summary of the Masters and Bachelor programmes is:
● 2 years M.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering) with an option for specialization in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Advanced Networks & Systems
● 2 years M.Sc. (Computer Science) with an option for specialization in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Advanced Networks & Systems
● 1 year MSc (Computer Science) with an option for specialization in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
● 3 years Integrated M.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering) with an option for specialization in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, and Advanced Networks & Systems
● 2 years Master of Computer Applications
● 5 years dual degree B.Tech.-M.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering)
● 4 years B.Tech. (Computer Science and Engineering)
● 4 years B.Tech. (Mathematics and Computing)
The M.Tech., Integrated M.Tech. and dual degree B.Tech.-M.Tech. programmes of the department contains one year rigorous research project with an aim to strengthen and contribute to new research areas in the eld. To facilitate research work, many high-end labs have been established in the department.
To create an appropriate research environment with high quality experimental facilities for the UG, PG and doctoral programmes, the department has established a several general-purpose computing laboratories, two hardware laboratories, and six specialized laboratories, including Computational Intelligence Lab (CiLab), Laboratory for Data Science & Analytics (LDSA), Intelligent Systems & Deep Learning Lab (ISDL-LAB), Machine Learning and Statistical Inference Lab (MLSI-LAB), Laboratory for Distributed Systems and Services (LDS2), Performance Modeling and Simulation Lab (PMSL), Laboratory for Optical Networking and Systems (LONS). Laboratory of Social Analytics and Network Science (LSANS), Laboratory for Human Computer Interaction (LHCI) & Laboratory for Data Engineering, Computational Analytics and Intelligent Optimization (LDECAIO)
In alignment with the fact that the university departments have their own responsibility to bring out skilled and competent professionals to face global challenges with the new insights of problem-solving abilities, the Department of Computer Science, admitting students from all SAARC nations, is rendering such an important responsibility by producing Computer Science professionals competent enough to fulfill the industrial and research needs of the SAARC nations. The mission of producing able and competent Computer Science professionals in the department is being achieved due to the involvement of highly dedicated and competent faculty members. We are continuously progressing year after year as we are sincerely committed towards the goal of promoting not only the department but also the institution as a whole. Our students have been able to make a mark for themselves in different parts of the world.
