A University established by SAARC nations
South Asian University (SAU) is an international university established by the eight member nations of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) viz. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
SAU started its operations from the academic year 2010. The university now offers post-graduate and doctoral programmes in various disciplines that include Economics, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Sociology, International Relations and Law. It will ultimately have 11 post-graduate faculties and a faculty of undergraduate studies. SAU attracts students from all member nations and its degrees are recognised by all the eight SAARC countries.
The University has now shifted to its permanent campus on Rajpur Road in Maidan Garhi, South Delhi.
(M.A Sociology - Class of 2014)
SAU helps you do Sociology in a creative way. It engages you with the everyday and lets you have a dialogue with it making vivid that ‘sociology’ is out there in your vicinity rather than confining you to the academic texts alone. In short, the experience of studying sociology at SAU has been engrossing and fascinating!
(M.Sc. Computer Science - Class of 2013)
It was my great pleasure to be a part of a novel idea of bringing South Asian students together under a single roof. I had a great opportunity to get the taste of multicultural diversity of different nations around this region. The university provides an environment where people can share their views, ideas, and joys and can get the opportunity to know each other very firmly. Now we are starting to think together to bring back our unity towards a prosperous South Asia.
(M.A. Development Economics - Class of 2014)
South Asian University for me extends way beyond the definition of an academic institution but is rather an experience in itself to explore the richness of possibilities and opportunities in the South Asian region. The knowledge gained, the friendships made, the common lunch tables and festivities for students from eight different counties with diverse pasts, has been an enrichment of our “South Asian-ness” and holds the hope of integration unmatched, unseen and unprecedented.

(LLM - Class of 2013) Assistant Professor, West Bengal National University for Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, India
Having been a student of the first batch, I have no doubts in saying that South Asian University has perhaps one of the best Masters programmes in Law in India. The placement rate has been high with most students getting placed in academics, research, judiciary or public services. Many of them have even gone back to their respective countries to join policy-making institutions. It feels really good to be a part of the prosperous smaller world of the South Asian community.
(M.Sc. Applied Mathematics - Class of 2014)
South Asian University has set the stage for the students from the SAARC nations in bringing together the students from all diversities and cultures and with the highly experienced faculty it is acting as a springboard, facilitating the students to sail through their academicperiod with ease and comfort.
(M.A. International Relations - Class of 2014) Lecturer, Al Qiyaas University, Afghanistan)
They say SAU is a research-oriented university. And it truly is. I spent two years at SAU and one of the things which gives me a comparative advantage at the job market is the ability to do quality research. The emphasis on assignments at SAU teaches you everything about research.Adding to this, SAU graduates are South Asian experts through experience and interaction with
