The Faculty of Chemical Sciences (FCS) was established with a strong vision on an integrated approach. The focus of FCS will be academic excellence and advanced research by addressing scientific inquiry and the development of innovative interdisciplinary research projects. In contribution, FCS is set to commence its academic activities this year with a strong motive of building an enthusiastic environment for academics and research. In accomplishment, FCS plans to host seminars, workshops, collaborative conferences with the broader scientific community and lectures by distinguished scientists. The interactive session will be organised for students to enlighten their academic and research knowledge. FCS also plans the students’ tour to different chemical industries, where they can learn and understand the importance of chemistry.
The University has initiated the beginning of a 5-year Integrated BS-MS programme in Interdisciplinary Sciences with chemistry as one of the major disciplines. Through this programme, the faculty of Chemical Sciences would offer a BS degree (4 years) as well as the Integrated BS-MS degree (5 years) in Chemical Sciences. This programme is designed to enhance the basic and advanced knowledge of interdisciplinary science by developing a robust connection between academic learning and research activities. In the fourth and fifth years, students get the opportunity to work in the research laboratories of their interest. They have exposure to a research environment, which will help their career growth in academia, research institutions, and industry in India and abroad.
Shortly, we will elevate the FCS by introducing different MS programmes tentatively in areas like MS (Industrial Chemistry), MS (Medicinal Chemistry) and a few more in the allied chemistry areas. The major goal of all the programmes will be to equip our scholars in their respective fields, which will lead them to excel in upcoming specialised areas in their careers.
The FCS has initiated the Ph.D. Programme in designing and synthesising small organic molecules with biological significance from this semester. Interested candidates with UGC/CSIR-JRF qualification may apply directly for the Ph.D. admission.
Chemistry emphasises understanding the behaviour of matter, and its essence is not limited to research laboratories. It is all around us; the better we know chemistry, the better we know our world. Antoine Lavoisier, the “Father of Modern Chemistry,” said, “Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.” Chemistry is all about diversity. Therefore, in FCS, we equip our students with the scientific knowledge and skills by fostering their future through chemical innovation.
