  1. Students will be exposed to four major science disciplines, to be called Major Disciplines, namely, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biological Sciences. An extensive knowledge of computer science courses will be provided to all the students. Moreover, the students will have the opportunity to study several interdisciplinary courses to choose from Social Sciences/Economics/Law/International Relations/Management/Arts & Design/Music/Foreign language etc.
  2. Students will be admitted to the 5-year Integrated BS-MS Interdisciplinary Science Program and at the end of the programme, will earn the BS-MS degree in the Major Disciplines of Physics, Mathematics, or Biological Sciences. However, the students can exit after 4 years with a BS degree in any of the four Major Disciplines Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Biological Sciences.
  3. Students are required to earn at least 160 credits to get a BS degree and 200 credits for a BS-MS degree. On average, around 20 credits of courses will be offered each semester.
  4. Course Types in the BS-MS Program:

    • Elective Discipline Groups (EDG): Includes Major Disciplines; students choose one or more.
    • Computer Science (CS) Courses: A significant number will be offered.
    • Multidisciplinary Open Elective (IDOE) Courses: 2-credit electives in areas like Languages, Social Sciences, Economics, Law, etc.
    • EVS, ITSA, and Ethics: Includes 2-credit compulsory courses in Environmental Studies (EVS) and Institute of South Asian Studies (ITSA), and a non-credit Ethics course.
  5. Semester-wise Major Discipline Choices:
    • Semesters I, II, III: All CDGs (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological Sciences) are compulsory.
    • Semester III: Choose one 4-credit EDG course, including Computer Science.
    • Semesters I–IV: Mathematics offered at two levels:
      • Basic – for those without Class XII Mathematics
      • Advanced – for others
    • Semester IV:
      • Choose 3 CDG disciplines (12 credits); the dropped one cannot be taken later.
      • Choose 3 EDG/CS disciplines (9 credits).
    • Semester V: Choose 2 disciplines (from Semester IV CDGs) for a total of 20 credits.
    • Semester VI:
      • Choose 1 discipline (from Semester V) for at least 15 credits.
      • Choose 2 EDG disciplines (6 credits).
    • Semesters VII & VIII: Continue with the core discipline from Semester VI. No EDG courses allowed.
    • Exit Option: Students may exit after Semester VIII with a BS degree in the chosen discipline.
    • Continuation Option: Students may continue to complete the Integrated BS-MS degree.
  6. Flexibilities and Restrictions:
    • A Major Discipline dropped under CDG in any semester cannot be selected again.
    • A Major Discipline dropped under EDG may be chosen again if prerequisites are fulfilled.
    • Students may take additional EDG disciplines to earn extra credits, including from previous semesters.
