International Workshop “Bridging the Gap Across Sciences” for National Science Day Celebration

South Asian University celebrated National Science Day 2026 with a two-day international workshop titled “Bridging the Gap Across Sciences,” on 26th – 27th February, 2026. The workshop was organized by Faculty of Physical Sciences and Faculty of Chemical Sciences in collaboration with Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies.

The event began with inaugural addresses by Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, President, SAU, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary learning, the transformative role of education, and the relevance of science in everyday life. Key sessions included expert talk on Raman Effect and modern spectroscopy by Prof. D. N. Gupta, Department of Physics and Astrophysics, University of Delhi. Prof. Nagendra Kaushik, Kwangwoon University, Seoul, South Korea, delivered an online talk on Plasma-based Nanotechnology and Biological Applications. A hands-on LaTeX workshop was conducted for students by Dr. Preeti Bhandari, Faculty of Physical Sciences, SAU. Students actively participated in creative activities such as debates, photography, and STEAM-based art, while a “Wall of Fame” honoured lesser-known SAARC scientists.

Day two focused on global research collaboration, featuring an international keynote by Prof. Hyyong Suk from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Korea on Tetrahertz Sources and their Applications. The technical sessions with oral presentations by research scholars from various institutes on quantum computing, gas sensing, hydroelectric cell, inter metallic compounds and radiochemistry, plasma physics, and sustainable technologies. Post graduate and Under graduate students actively took part in the poster presentation showcasing their ideas and scientific literature across interdisciplinary fields.  Cultural performances added vibrancy to the event.

The workshop concluded successfully with strong participation, recognition of organizers, and a reaffirmation of the importance of interdisciplinary and collaborative scientific research.
