South Asian University (SAU) Expands Academic Offerings and Opens Admissions for 2026-27

New Delhi, 24th of February 20206. South Asian University (SAU), established by the Governments of SAARC Nations, with the vision of “Knowledge Without Borders,” has announced the commencement of admissions for the academic session 2026-27. The announcement was made by Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, President of SAU, in the presence of Vice Presidents, Deans, Registrar, Faculty Members and key officials of the University. Addressing the press on 24 February 2026, Prof. Aggarwal reaffirmed the university’s commitment to delivering world-class education and expanding academic opportunities across the South Asian region.

It is a truly unique and one-of-its-kind model, not only in India but globally where eight nations have come together to establish and nurture a shared institution of learning. South Asian University is situated on a beautiful 100-acre campus at Maidan Garhi, nestled within the forested landscape of South Delhi. The campus has been developed by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, reflecting a strong commitment to regional cooperation and academic excellence. The University moved to its state-of-the-art campus in 2023, marking a significant milestone in its continued pursuit of academic excellence and infrastructural growth. Press release on the incident taken place in South Asian University(SAU)

 

The South Asian University unequivocally condemns the alleged act of sexual violence against one of its students in the strongest possible terms and solidly stands by the victim.

The university has a zero-tolerance policy on Sexual Harassment and all forms of violence against women. We strongly reiterate our commitment towards a safe and secure Campus.

The incident is being investigated by the police authorities. The student is now in the custody of her parents. 

The university has a standing committee, a majority of whose members are lady officials, to investigate allegations of sexual assault. The Committee has taken cognisance of the incident and will enquire into it. The university has separately constituted another committee to investigate alleged insensitive responses by the university authorities. We continue to focus on the matter and will ensure that the investigations are taken to their logical conclusion and appropriate action is taken against the offenders.

South Asian University Celebrates International Day of Yoga with Enthusiasm
SAU to Become a Hub for Yoga Promotion in South Asia: Prof. K.K. Aggarwal
New Delhi, 21 June 2025 – South Asian University (SAU), established by the SAARC nations and located in New Delhi, celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with great zeal and participation. Themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, the event witnessed active involvement from faculty, staff, and students of SAU representing various SAARC countries.
The celebration was chaired by Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, President of SAU, and renowned academician Prof. Saroj Aggarwal. Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Aggarwal emphasized that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a path toward self-awareness and spiritual well-being. He stressed the importance of promoting yoga throughout South Asia and said that SAU is committed to becoming a key center for yoga outreach in the region.
Prof. Saroj Aggarwal highlighted the immense benefits of yoga for women, stating that it is an ancient practice that nurtures physical, mental, and emotional health.
Dr. Ravindra Kumar Soni, Registrar of SAU, informed the gathering that regular yoga sessions have been introduced on campus for faculty, staff, and students to integrate yoga into their daily lives—a commendable step towards holistic well-being.
The event also featured a captivating performance by young yoga artists, who demonstrated various asanas with grace and discipline. These young performers were felicitated and awarded by Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, Prof. Saroj Aggarwal, Vice-President Prof. Sanjay Chaturvedi, and Dr. Ravindra Soni for their exceptional display.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from the SAU academic and non-academic community, including families and a large number of students. The stage was anchored by Prof. Ambrish Saxena, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Acting Finance Director, and Mr. M.P. Kedia, Superintending Engineer.

21 जून को भारत सहित दुनियाभर में बड़े उत्साह के साथ 11वां अंतरराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस मनाया गया। इसी क्रम में सार्क देशों द्वारा नई दिल्ली में स्थापित साउथ एशियन यूनिवर्सिटी में “एक पृथ्वी, एक स्वास्थ्य के लिए योग” थीम के साथ अंतरराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस मनाया गया । साउथ एशियन यूनिवर्सिटी के अध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर केके अग्रवाल एवं वरिष्ठ शिक्षाविद्द प्रोफेसर सरोज अग्रवाल की अध्यक्षता में आयोजित इस कार्यक्रम में भारत सहित सार्क के सदस्य देशों के संकाय, कर्मचारी व छात्र-छात्राओं ने योगाभ्यास किया।

कार्यक्रम के दौरान एसएयू के अध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर केके अग्रवाल ने योग से निरोग रहने के टिप्स बताते हुए कहा कि योग सिर्फ शारीरिक व्यायाम नहीं है बल्कि यह आत्म-जागरूकता के साथ आध्यात्मिक सोच को बढ़ावा देता है। प्रोफेसर अग्रवाल ने कहा कि दक्षिण एशिया में योग को बढ़ावा देना जरूरी है। इसके लिए एसएयू बड़ा माध्यम बनेगा। इस दौरान प्रोफेसर सरोज अग्रवाल ने कहा कि योग महिलाओं के लिए प्राचीन अभ्यास है जो शारीरिक, मानसिक और भावनात्मक स्वास्थ्य को बढ़ावा देता है।

कार्यक्रम में मौजूद कुल सचिव डॉ. रविन्द्र कुमार सोनी ने ने कहा कि योग हमारे दैनिक जीवन का हिस्सा बने इसके लिए एसएयू कैंपस में संकाय, कर्मचारी और छात्र-छात्राओं के लिए नियमित योग कक्षाओं की व्यवस्था की गयी है जो एक अच्छी पहल है।

योग के इस अनूठे समागम में बाल कलाकारों ने योग विधा की शानदार प्रस्तुति से सभी का मन मोह लिया। एसएयू के अध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर केके अग्रवाल, प्रोफेसर सरोज अग्रवाल और उपाध्यक्ष प्रोफेसर संजय चतुर्वेदी और ड़ॉ. रविन्द्र कुमार सोनी ने इन मेधावी बाल योगी कलाकारों को पुरस्कार देकर साम्मानित किया।
योग के इस कार्यक्रम में एसएयू के शैक्षणिक, गैर शैक्षणिक कर्मचारी, उनके परिवार और बडी संख्या में छात्र व छाआओं ने भाग लिया।

कार्यक्रम के दौरान प्रोफेसर अंबरीष सक्सेना ने जहां मंच संचालन किया वहीं समापन कार्यक्रम में एसएयू के कार्यवाहक वित्त निदेशक राकेश मोहन व अधीक्षण अभियंता एमपी केडियाल ने सभी का आभार जताया।

SAARC Secretary General H.E. Mr. Md. Golam Sarwar Visited South Asian University in its Maidan Garhi Campus

H.E. Mr. Md. Golam Sarwar, Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), visited the South Asian University on May 14, 2024. He was warmly received by SAU officials, and students from across South Asian Countries.

E. Md. Golam Sarwar, Secretary General met the President, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal, who briefed him about the journey of the University, the new programmes introduced and avenues for future development.

H.E. Mr. Md Sarwar appreciated SAU for the achievements it has had in such a short period and underlined the impressive campus and infrastructure of its permanent campus in Maidan Garhi. He mentioned that SAU is one of the most successful flagship endeavours of the SAARC. He also expressed gratitude to the Government  of India for all the support it has rendered to the South Asian University, and also for nominating a seasoned academic and visionary administrator to lead the University as the President. He also highlighted the role the institution is playing in imparting quality education and promoting cooperation among students from various parts of the region, while also suggesting to start more interdisciplinary courses which would be of common interest to the member countries of SAARC.

The Secretary General also interacted with the Deans and Chairpersons of various Faculties and Departments of the University. He offered any support that would be required to take the University forward.

The Secretary General is on an official visit in India and today marks the last day of his visit.

South Asian University extends last date of application for admission 2024 – 25

South Asian University has extended the deadline for the online submission of applications for admission to various programmes including Bachelor’s, Master’s, Integrated Master’s, MTech and PhD for academic session 2024-25. The University will now accept applications till the midnight of 10 April 2024.

The computer-based entrance tests for these  programmes will be conducted on  20th April & 21th  April 2024 simultaneously across South Asia at designated centres. The programmes on offer are in the areas of Economics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, International Relations, Legal Studies, Mathematics and Sociology.  The entrance test is compulsory for admission to most of the programmes, however, there are modes of direct admission to some BTech, MTech, Integrated and PhD seats. In the direct mode of admission, certain categories of candidates are exempted from the entrance test and the shortlisting is done on the basis of their scores in certain standard examinations including JEE, GATE and JRF along with their CVs/SOPs/research proposals/letters of recommendations, followed by personal interview, wherever applicable.

Beginning this session, the university has introduced new programmes in the Department of Computer Science, namely, BTech, Dual Degree (BTech+MTech), MTech and integrated MSc+MTech from the new academic session. SAU has plans to introduce more programmes in the near future.

South Asian University is jointly established by the governments of the eight SAARC nations. About half the students in SAU are from India while the remaining half are from the rest of the SAARC countries, barring a few students from other regions of the world. Each SAARC country has a quota of seats but if the number of students from any particular country runs short of the allotted quota, the remaining available seats are filled up by students from other countries as per SAU rules. Applicants from Non-SAARC countries can apply directly for admission giving details of their academic credentials, without appearing in the entrance test.

New Delhi, February 22:South Asian University has started the online admission process for the new academic session 2024-25 for all programmes including Bachelor’s, Master’s, Integrated Master’s, MTech and PhD. The admission brochure for the academic session 2024 -25 was released by the President of the university, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal at a function organised at Foreign Correspondents’ Club here today. The university is going to introduce new programmes in the Department of Computer Science, namely, BTech, Dual Degree (BTech+MTech), MTech and integrated MSc+MTech from the new academic session. SAU has plans to introduce more programmes in the near future.

The programmes on offer are in the areas of Economics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, International Relations, Legal Studies, Mathematics and Sociology. The entrance tests for these  programmes will be conducted on  20th April & 21th  April 2024. This entrance test will be computer-based with multiple choice questions conducted simultaneously across South Asia at designated centres. Applicants will be  allowed to take the test on scheduled time slots at the respective test centres of their choice.

 The entrance test is compulsory for admission to most of the programmes, however, there are modes of direct admission to some BTech, MTech, Integrated and PhD seats. In the direct mode of admission, certain categories of candidates are exempted from the entrance test and the shortlisting is done on the basis of their scores in certain standard examinations including JEE, GATE and JRF along with their CVs/SOPs/research proposals/letters of recommendations and then called directly for the interview, wherever applicable.

The university offers scholarships and financial assistance to a certain number of students on merit and merit-cum-means basis. Students are also granted specially-created visas.
