Hiring Circular for the Position of Research Assistant-Department of Sociology
Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant for the SAU research project titled “Gen Z in South Asia: Understanding Actions and Affective Practices” under the supervision of Dr. Ratan Kumar Roy, Principal Investigator, Department of Sociology, South Asian University.
The RA is expected to join from the month of August.
Project Description
The project is based on a multi-sited qualitative study across Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and India, exploring Gen Z’s sentiments, actions, and affective practices. Through field visits, ethnographic interviews, and virtual participatory workshops, the project will examine how Gen Z individuals express identities, articulate aspirations, and build affective solidarities in response to social and political change.

Consolidated Salary: INR 25,000 per month

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and critically engaged candidate for this cross-country research project. The selected candidate will assist and support the design and execution of the research project.
The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting literature reviews;
- Assisting in field visits and data collection;
- Conducting ethnographic interviews;
- Supporting virtual participatory workshops;
- Organizing, analyzing, and interpreting qualitative data;
- Using qualitative research software for data management and analysis;
- Assisting in the preparation of research reports, academic papers, and other project outputs;
- Supporting the Principal Investigator in project-related administrative and academic tasks.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must have:
- A postgraduate degree in a Social Science discipline with a minimum of 55% marks;
- MA/M.Phil./NET qualification in Sociology or a related Social Science discipline;
- Demonstrated interest and skills in qualitative research;
- Working knowledge of qualitative research software;
- Familiarity with South Asian culture, society, and politics;
- Ability to undertake field-based and cross-country qualitative research.
Note
- Consideration will be given to candidates with a strong academic record and the capacity to undertake qualitative and cross-country research.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
- The selected candidate is expected to make the university their main place of work during the tenure of the project and work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
- Unsatisfactory performance may lead to termination of the appointment.
- The appointment is purely project-based and temporary in nature.
