Dr Shruti Nagpal is Assistant Professor (Senior Grade), Media Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Design, South Asian University. She holds a Practice-Based PhD from the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, and is a double Gold Medallist, having topped both her undergraduate (Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication, GGSIPU) and postgraduate (M.A., Mass Communication, AJK MCRC) programmes.

Her research engages with the themes of datafication, surveillance, and the techno-cultural dimensions, alongside a growing body of work on academic archives and visual culture. Dr Nagpal has delivered talks and presented her research work at prominent international platforms including universities like Monash University, Universitat de Valencia, University of Nottingham, University of Newcastle and University of the West of England, apart from other international forums across the UK, Turkey, Australia, Portugal and Spain. She has published articles, essays, book chapters and research papers in international and national journals and has held teaching positions at prominent institutions including VIPS, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, AJK Mass Communication Research Centre, Jamia Millia Islamia, Kamala Nehru College, Delhi University, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Guru Nanak Dev University; mentoring students, researchers and serving on research and publication committees.

Prior to joining SAU, she was associated with Ashoka University, where she led institutional communications and policy initiatives across academic governance, global alliances and student affairs. Earlier, she worked with the Media Centre of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Ministry of Culture, where she was the faculty in-charge for academic programmes in Ethnographic Filmmaking and Screenwriting.

Dr Nagpal is a mixed-media artist, and a practicing photographer. She has commissioned ethnographic films, produced audio-video programs and directed documentary films across genres. She has served as a jury member for film festivals including the Woodpecker International Film Festival and the Mumbai International Annual Children's Film Festival, and her photographic work has been exhibited in several platforms, including in Spain (2024) and Hungary (2026) and at the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi (2023).
