The Faculty of Legal Studies, South Asian University, inaugurated its Five-Year Integrated Law Programmes—B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)—on 7 August 2026

The Faculty of Legal Studies, South Asian University, inaugurated its Five-Year Integrated Law Programmes—B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)—on 7 August 2026 in the presence of Hon’ble Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, as the Chief Guest; Hon’ble Mr Justice Rajesh Bindal, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, as the Guest of Honour; and Prof. K.K. Aggarwal, Hon’ble President, South Asian University.

The ceremony commenced with Saraswati Vandana, the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, and the release of the programme brochure. Welcoming the gathering, Prof. Dr Ritu Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Legal Studies, introduced the newly launched programmes and welcomed the inaugural batch of students.

Prof. Kapil Sharma, Vice President (Academic), shared the University’s academic vision and encouraged students to rely on authentic sources of information.

In his presidential address, Prof. K. K. Aggarwal highlighted the vision behind the integrated law programmes and the University’s unique SAARC character. He also announced the appointment of Hon’ble Mr Justice Rajesh Bindal as Honorary Visiting Professor, reaffirming SAU’s commitment to practice-oriented legal education.

Addressing the students, Hon’ble Mr Justice Rajesh Bindal highlighted the evolving legal profession and the growing role of technology through NJDG and e-Courts. Referring to South Asian University as a modern Gurukul, he remarked, “Sky is the limit for the legal profession.”

In his inaugural address, Hon’ble Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal congratulated South Asian University on the launch of the new programmes, wished the students success, and highlighted the historical significance of 7 August, associated with the Swadeshi Movement of 1905.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Dr. Kiran Rai, Professor of Law, Faculty of Legal Studies.

The inauguration marks a significant milestone in South Asian University’s commitment to advancing legal education in the region. The occasion was attended by Prof. Pranab Muhuri, Vice President (Administration); Prof. Kapil Sharma, Vice President (Academic); Prof. Ritu Gaur, Vice President (Strategy and Innovation); Prof. Saroj Aggarwal; the Registrar; Proctor; Deans; faculty members; officials; students; and other distinguished guests.

The programme was anchored by Dr Devaleena Kundu and Ms Harsimran Kaur, who served as the Masters of Ceremony (MoC).
