Doctoral Programme (PhD) in Media, Arts and Design

The PhD program under FAD emphasizes advanced research in Media Arts and Design. Admission Procedure:

SAU admits PhD students through two modes:

  1. Direct Mode: Candidates can apply throughout the year. Selected students will not receive financial support from the university.
  2. Entrance Test Mode: Admissions occur once a year, with applications typically invited from January/February. Admitted students are eligible for a monthly stipend of INR 25,000 for up to five years and tuition fee exemption.

Programme Structure:

  • Pre-PhD Coursework: Students must complete coursework over two semesters, totalling 16 credits: 14 credits from courses and 2 credits from seminars and term papers. Some departments may have higher credit requirements.
  • Evaluation: Students must achieve a minimum CGPA to continue in the programme. Those with a CGPA below the required threshold may transition to an MPhil programme or exit with an MPhil degree.
  • Residency Requirement: A minimum residency of two years after admission is mandatory.
  • Full-Time Commitment: PhD students are expected to commit full-time and are not permitted to undertake employment during the residency period.
