Dr. Yuba Raj Pokharel

Dr. Yuba Raj Pokharel, Associate Professor, Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, with his team Vivek Pandey, Shivani Sharma, Vikrant Singh, and Birendra Kumar Yadav, has published a book chapter “Therapeutic Landscape of SARS-CoV-2 ” in the book “Stem Cells: An Alternative Therapy for COVID-19 and Cytokine Storm” by Academic Press, an imprint of Elsevier. Dr. Jagdish Chand Bansal
A team of students specializing in Data Science and Actuarial Science from Curtin University Australia, has arrived at South Asian University for a three-week project cum internship program. We acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of Dr. Ritu Gupta, Assistant Professor at Curtin University, for bringing this diverse group of students under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Jagdish Chand Bansal. The project is part of the New Colombo Plan 2024, an initiative of the Australian Government to promote knowledge sharing and cultural exchange in the Indo-Pacific region. Prof Rajen Harshe

Prof. Rajen Harshe has been nominated as the member of Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO (INCCU). The term of the newly constituted INCCU is for four years. Apart from taking general interest in evolving its policies and programmes, Prof. Harshe will be specifically functioning within the sub- commission on social sciences of the INCCU. [October 2015]

Dr. Siddharth Mallavarapu

Dr. Siddharth Mallavarapu of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of International Relations is among six internationally recognized scholars in the discipline of International Relations who have been invited as part of a Lecture Series for the Frankfurt Cluster of Excellence “Normative Orders” under the Title “Theorizing Global Order”. He will be delivering a public lecture plus a seminar in the context of a “Master´s Class” with graduate students at the Goethe University Frankfurt/Main in July 2015.

Prof Rajiv K Saxena

Prof. Rajiv Saxena, the Dean of Faculty of Life Sciences and Biotechnology and Vice President of SAU has been awarded Rs.25 million research grant by the Nano-Sciences Mission of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India. This research grant for which DST would be used to study the interactions of carbon nanotubes and other nano sized particles with the cells of the immune system. The project would specifically focus on alterations of nano-particle uptake by immune cells upon activation with antigens or upon oncogenic transformation and would facilitate devising ways of therapeutic drug targeting to cells of the immune system. About 60% of the grant money will be used to establish a “Confocal fluorescence microscopy research facility” at SAU.

Prof. Rajiv K. Saxena, Dean, FLSB, has been awarded the prestigious “JC Bose National Research Fellowship” by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Fellowship is for the duration of 5 years during which Prof. Saxena will receive the fellowship of INR 25,000 per month and a contingency amount of INR 10,00,000 every year for travel and other expenditures.

Dr. Sai Ramani Garimella

Dr. Sai Ramani was invited by the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg to deliver a lecture at the the IFSH Research Colloquium at the Institute, Beim Schlump, University of Hamburg, Hamburg on the 10th of July, 2013. The lecture was on the topic “South Asia – Violence against the marginalized”. The lecture was about the legislative intervention against caste-based violence in the three countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and India.

Dr. Pankaj Jain

Dr Jain, Associate Professor, FMCS was invited to conduct “Summer School on Numerical Analysis and Applications” by the Department of Mathematics, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal during June 24-29, 2013. During the school, Dr Jain delivered a 25-hour course consisting of series of lectures and computer hands on. Dr. Luther M. Rangreji

Dr. Rangreji has been appointed Member (Expert) of the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for a period of three years. The GEAC is a Statutory body for approving GE proposals involving large scale use of hazardous living microorganisms and recombinants in research and industrial production from the environmental angle and the release of genetically engineered organisms and products into the environment, including experimental field trials. Posted 26.6.2013

Prof Rajiv K Saxena

Prof Saxena’s research proposal “Modulation of erythroid line of differentiation and erythrocyte turnover in mouse model of autoimmune hemolytic anemia ” has been approved for funding by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Science & Engineering Research Board, India.
