
Dr Ratan Kumar Roy is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at South Asian
University. Before joining SAU, he was working as an Assistant Professor, School
of General Education at BRAC University, Dhaka. Dr Roy is an Adjunct Faculty of
the Centre for International Development, Social Entrepreneurship and
Leadership (CIDSEL), University of Sunshine Coast, Australia and Affiliate
Faculty of the K-Culture-Story Content Research Institute of Kyung Hee
University, Seoul, South Korea. He was Charles Wallace Bangladesh Trust
Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow at the South Asia Centre of LSE (London School of
Economics), UK (2022-23). He has been working in the field of visual and media
anthropology in South Asia. He was a Residency Fellow at Asia Culture Centre,
Republic of Korea in 2018 and is a member of the Early Career Advisory
Committee and South Asia Regional Group of International Visual Sociology
Association (IVSA). He is co-editor of UNESCO-SWAN reports on the Status of
Women in Media in South Asia. He has also made documentary films and feature
stories for television. In recent years, Dr Roy has developed and offered
interdisciplinary courses like Communication for Social Change, Visual
Storytelling, Streaming Media Cultures.
