Faculty of Economics

Placement

The Faculty of Economics, SAU, offers a unique master’s programme in Economics (with specialization in Economic Development). The course not only teaches students core aspects of economics, it also engages in analyzing issues pertinent to the South Asian region. This exercise leads to well-trained graduate economists, who also are specialized in development concerns, particularly in South Asia.

The course requires students to write a thesis prior to completion of their master’s degree. This dissertation encourages them to engage in independent research with faculty supervision, thereby honing their knowledge of the subject as they put theoretical concepts to practice.

The core courses include microeconomics (I and II), macroeconomics (I and II), mathematical methods in economics, development economics (I and II), South Asian Economic Development and econometrics. Optional courses include agriculture and development, econometric methods, environmental economics, efficiency and productivity analysis, game theory, gender and development, global political economy, growth and development, industrial organization, international economics, money and banking, poverty and inequality, public economics, trade, capital flows and development, social choice theory, topics in political economy, topics in macroeconomics and topics in applied econometrics.

Our students are well-trained for working in corporate sector environments, as well as research organizations. Past placements include RMS, The Economist, CHEORS, RBS to name a few. Many of our students pursue doctoral degrees in economics at international and nationally reputed universities.
